The name REBEL suggests that this hedgehog in a cage goes its own way. The first notable difference is the possibility of unscrewing it without disrupting the principle of the puzzle itself. One of the spikes can be unscrewed together with part of the sphere's shell, yet the mechanism remains fully functional.
The second unique feature is the size of the sphere and its inner cavity. REBEL pushes the boundaries to record heights – both in terms of overall diameter and usable interior space. For comparison: the ORIGINAL hedgehog in a cage, which has the largest sphere to date, has a diameter of 22.5 mm and an interior space of 17 mm. REBEL offers an impressive ball diameter of 30 mm and an internal diameter of 28 mm. The classic design requires more space for internal and external threads and to maintain strength. However, this new, ingenious design does not need this – it was first successfully tested on the oversized Max model.
Another big surprise is the Flying Wheel plan hidden inside – in an unprecedented A4 size (normally only A5).

"Eight years ago, a young man asked me if an engagement ring would fit inside the hedgehog's cavity, because he wanted to propose to his girlfriend in this way. Unfortunately, I had to disappoint him at the time. But maybe that sparked my idea to make such a Hedgehog. Now I could tell him that it would work, because several rings can fit into the cavity! The entrance diameter is 21 mm," adds Radek Micopulos, designer.

The third notable advantage is the more solid cage wall. Instead of the usual 2 mm, it is 3 mm thick, which gives the puzzle an exceptionally sturdy and solid character. The total weight is 276 g – a full 100 g more than the stainless steel ORIGINAL.
The materials used underscore the exclusivity of the design. The all-stainless steel cage is made from a single piece of material and complemented by brass plugs that emphasize the rounded shape and at the same time refer to the first Hedgehogs with brass joints. The chrome-plated ball is fitted with 12 stainless steel conical spikes with an enlarged base diameter of 6 mm, which further enhances its robust appearance.
The icing on the cake is the packaging. REBEL can be given as a real experience – it is stored in an original tin with a pull-off lid, similar to tins of nuts. The recipient has no idea what is inside until the very last moment. Upon opening, they will also discover a new drawstring bag with the embossed logo of the original Czech puzzle manufacturer RADEMIC PUZZLES. The torn-off lid bears the designer's signature, and the package also includes a replacement lid for normal closure.
REBEL is not just a puzzle. It is a solid piece of metal, technical courage, and a collector's experience all in one.
Hedgehog in a Cage REBEL – A Precise Puzzle for the Discerning
This Hedgehog in a Cage is an exceptional puzzle whose design and manufacturing push the boundaries of technical feasibility. Unlike the classic version, the cage has only four holes, and the puzzle has a single possible solution, where literally tenths of a millimeter make all the difference. Behind its seemingly simple appearance lies an exceptionally complex manufacturing process. Three specialized manufacturers are involved in the production of the individual components of the thornless hedgehog ball itself, and its fabrication requires several precision manufacturing fixtures as well as advanced CNC technology. The body of the hedgehog itself is formed by pressing a metal tube into a spherical shape. This is followed by several manufacturing operations—cutting a thread on a milling machine and then 5-axis drilling of the remaining holes for the spines on a specialized CNC machine. In addition, each piece produced is individually hand-finished to achieve the required precision and ensure the puzzle functions correctly. Minor manufacturing variations in individual components require careful adjustment, making each piece unique in its own way.
A Puzzle Where Precision Is Key
The intention was not to create yet another variation of the classic “Hedgehog in a Cage,” but rather a technically sophisticated puzzle with a single, precisely defined path to the solution. The hedgehog’s movement inside the cage is intentionally limited to a minimum. Success depends not on strength, but on patience, subtle movements, and finding the exact position. Even the slightest change in the hedgehog’s orientation can determine whether you can continue solving the puzzle. It is precisely this extraordinary precision and ingenious design that make this puzzle a true challenge even for experienced solvers.
Important Notice
This “Hedgehog in a Cage” puzzle is not suitable for children. It is a highly precise, technically demanding puzzle intended primarily for experienced and patient solvers. When handling the puzzle, it is essential to proceed with extreme caution and avoid using force. The individual components are manufactured with very tight tolerances, and forceful movement, prying, or attempts to overcome resistance may cause irreversible damage to the puzzle. If the hedgehog does not move through a certain position, this does not indicate a manufacturing defect. You need to find the correct position and angle of rotation. The correct solution does not require force, but rather precision and finesse. This puzzle is not about overcoming obstacles by force. It is about understanding its design, patience, and perfect mastery of every movement.
Technical Note – Thread Locking
Due to the specific manufacturing method of the hedgehog’s spherical body, it is not possible to create a classic fixed thread stop. This function is therefore fulfilled by a small plate housed inside the hedgehog, which also forms part of its hidden contents. The washer serves as a flexible stop against which the threaded mandrel rests when it is screwed in. This ensures its correct position and secure tightening. If, over time, the pin does not hold securely enough, it may be because the inner plate has become too flattened. In that case, simply remove the plate carefully and straighten it slightly so that, when reinserted, it provides the necessary stop. This solution is based on the puzzle’s design and allows it to remain disassemblable while preserving space for storing hidden contents.
